Wow!! No wonder there is so much insight and power and depth in your writing. Things that you wonder about and regret are now the compost that feeds your genius.
I LOVE this! I've been able to see Patti Smith Live on three occasions in my life. All were in Lawrence. I've read all of her books and own all of her recordings. I first really learned to love her in 1982 with her album Wave, but I actually was following her career in the 1970s as a reader of Hir Parader and Circus magazines. I also loved Gilda Radner's spoof of her playing Candy Slice. In my opinion Patti Smith is the greatest female voice of rock and roll. Check out her instagram, it is a scarp book/journal of greatness.
I love your story, your candor, your well earned wisdom.
"Me too," oh my god. That gives me heartburn for you. I listened to Just Kids in the first days home from the hospital with my daughter. The story for me is so linked to that time just sitting topless in a diaper nursing her and letting her sleep on me, falling asleep and waking up to Patti's voice still talking in my ear. She was like my guardian angel that week. I felt like she was telling me I was still an artist even as I oozed bodily fluids. I've wanted to visit the Chelsea Hotel ever since and am actually making the sojourn next week. I love the timing of this. I also love your stories and hope the winter has been kinder to you.
Megh, you’re SUCH a talented writer, painter, and creative person in general. You’re continuously amazing. Please send us weird pics from the Chelsea, PLEASE. I’m dying to know, but mostly just so grateful that you’re raising a daughter in this world bc we need more people like you AND that you’re fulfilling your dreams. KEEP GOING! 💪
Goddamn. You were just a kid. You did deserve to stay in that park and listen to Patty and receive whatever gifts she needed to give you. But it turns out, you didn’t need it. Turns out you are giving yourself the gifts you needed to give you… now. All these years later. And honestly, baby, better late than never. Because I marvel at who you are daily. Big time or not, you’re everything to me.

What a GIFT to see her perform!
